  Photoshop Tips and Tricks

13) Move your cursor over the areas that you want to darken. Burn the edge more than the rest of the poster (do this because edges of old-looking documents are darker, because that's where the hand has grabbed the paper over the yeas). But do not completely burn the edges, ignore some areas. When you are satisfied with the result, select the “Dodge tool” () which is found in the tool bar. Use the same settings in the option bar that you used for the “Burn tool”. Move your cursor over those areas that you want to be lighter as shown in figure 10.

14) Change the layer’s opacity to about 40% and click “OK” as shown in figure 11.

15) Now it is time to make the borders of the colored areas in layers “Dark Color” and “Medium Color” slightly softer: click on the layer mask of the “Dark Color” layer to make it active. Blur a little the layer by going the following path: Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Enter a value of 2 pixels for the Radius and click OK. By now your picture should look something similar to image as shown in figure 12.

16) Click on the layer mask of the “Medium Color” layer to make it active. Select the Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur option and enter a value of 2 pixels for the Radius and click OK as shown in figure 13.

17) Now it is time to add some texture to the image modified until now. Select the “Dodge and Burn” layer to make it active. Create a new fill or adjustment layer and select Pattern. Click on the button with the little black triangle in the Pattern Fill window that will appear and then open the fly-out menu by clicking on the circular button as shown in figure 14.
