Beautify a face in Adobe Photoshop

You may have in your gallery dozens of portraits taken. Of course, no one has a perfect skin, a perfect smile or a perfect hair style. It is possible that the picture you have taken is not sharp enough. Following the steps in this tutorial you will learnt to fix skin issues (wrinkles, blemishes), as well as fix the model’s eyebrows.

Step 1
First of all, you should take care of some additional things. Make sure you calibrated your monitor. You want your screen to display colors as accurately as possible. Also, check to avoid bright light being reflected on your monitor’s screen.

Step 2
Open the picture you want to edit. In order to do this, choose File > Open.. from the Photoshop main tool bar on top of the screen. Because you will perform quite a few editing procedures on the picture, it is recommended to work with large images (the more pixels the image has, the better). Also, it is recommended to edit images saved in lossless formats (TIFF, RAW or PSD) and to avoid as much as you can work with heavily compressed images.

Step 3
Before you start correcting all the face’s imperfections, you will need to adjust your overall picture. No matter if you used a professional camera or a point and shoot one, adjusting the levels to correct the brightness is always a recommended option. You will do this by using a Levels Adjustment Layer. Click on the “Create a new fill or adjustment layer” icon and select “Levels…” from the drop down list.

Step 4
A histogram will appear on the screen. If the black graphic representation stops before the end of the window, it means that the picture is either too dark or too light (if the histogram stops before the end, the image is too dark). It this is the case, move the white slider to the right until it reaches the histogram’s margins. Click “OK” in order to correct the picture’s levels.

Step 5
Now it is time to proceed to the actual editing of the picture. Let us start with correcting the eyebrows. You will need to create a new layer. Click on the “Create new Layer” icon, which you will find in the layers palette. Once you have created it, name it “Left Eyebrow” by clicking on its name tab.
